As most of my friends and family know, I eventually hope to move to NYC. Career wise, I think it’s the best place for me. Everyone that lives in NYC says the energy in the city is contagious. Being surrounded by some of the most driven, hardworking people in the world only makes you want to be better yourself. That being said, after a weekend visit to the city, I definitely had a bit of reality check. I won’t even get started ranting about my apartment search because I could write an entire blog post on how difficult it is to find a reasonable apartment in Manhattan (it’s literally insane). Besides that, spending just one day in the city made me really reevaluate what day to day life would be like for me living there.
1. I love this rain jacket from Zara. One of the lessons I learned last weekend is that it can go from bright and sunny to a complete monsoon in a matter of minutes in NYC! I have a North Face rain jacket that I’ve had for years, but to be honest, even if it’s raining here in Rhode Island I won’t wear it just because I can pretty much escape the rain by driving wherever I need to be. This jacket is the perfect shade of pink that I would wear it even if it wasn’t raining!
2. Again with the rain, I learned you CANNOT survive with out an umbrella. I’ve always had a thing for clear umbrellas… literally no clue why! Kate Spade seems be on the same page though–and she knows best, right?
3. This Zara bag is a must for two reasons: its huge AND it zips! Definitely a necessity in any city. Because it’s so hard to go from place to place in NYC, I have a feeling that when I leave my apartment in the morning I will not be returning until it’s time for bed. For that reason, I’m going to need a BIG bag to fit everything I may need throughout the day (laptop, gym clothes, makeup, & the thousand other things a girl keeps on hand).
4 & 5. When I’ve imagined my life in NYC, I’ve pictured myself getting dressed up every day in my favorite heels. Major reality check this weekend (#shoeicide). You do so much walking in NYC that my dream of running around the city in 5 inch heels is a thing of the past. Luckily, the sneaker trend is huge right now.
6. Last, but definitely not least, is the boyfriend jean. Again, because you are constantly walking and on the go, comfort is key. I have a few pairs of boyfriend jeans from Forever21 and H&M that honestly feel like sweatpants. I’ll be living in these.
